Ingredients to make matar paneer:

For the curry:

  • Geen peas: 1 cup (matar)
  • Indian cottage cheese :200 grams paneer (paneer )
  • Tomato :2 (tamatar)
  • Onion:1 pyaaz
  • Ginger-garlic paste :1 tsp (adrak-lehsun)
  • Green chilli1:1 (hari mirch)
  • Turmeric powder :1/4 tsp(haldi powder)
  • Red chilli powder :1tsp(laal mirch powder)
  • Garam masala:1tsp(garam masala)
  • Coriander :1 tsp(dhaniya powder)
  • Cumin seeds:1/2 tsp(jeera seeds)
  • Cumin powder :1/2 tsp(jeera powder)
  • Fenugreek leaves:1 tsp(kasuri methi)
  • Fresh cream :1tsp
  • Clarified butter :2 tsp (vegetable oil/ghee)
  • Salt :(Namak) as per taste
  • Coriander leaves :(dhaniya)
  • Water(paani) :1/4 cup (depending on the consistency)

Method To Make Matar Paneer

Preparation of Ingredients:

• To make matar paneer, first of all wash fresh peas well. If you want to use frozen peas then rinse them in warm water and keep them aside. After this we have to cut fresh paneer in small cubes. If you want soft paneer then you can put paneer like this. If some people like crispy paneer then they can fry it in ghee/oil.

• Then you chop the onion finely. Make a 1 large spoon ginger-garlic paste out of it.Then chop the tomatoes as well. Keep all the items aside.

2. Cooking of Onions and Spices:

• To make Matar paneer take 2-3 spoons of oil in a pan. When the oil is hot add cumin seeds and let it splutter for some time.

• After that add chopped onion in it, fry it well till the onion turns golden brown. After that add ginger garlic paste in it. Keep cooking it for 1 minute till the raw smell goes away. Then add green chillies in it.

3. Cooking Tomatoes and Spices:

• Add chopped tomato and green chilli into masala and cook for 4-5 minutes until it is completely mixed.

• After cooking tomatoes, add spices like red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt (as per taste), coriander powder and cumin powder. Mix all the spices well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the oil and masala separate. you can add spices as per your taste to make matar paneer delicious.

4. Adding Peas and Water:

• Now add green peas and mix the masala well. Stir for 1-2 minutes.

• Add 1/4 cup water and adjust the water according to the consistency of the curry. Cover and simmer for 5-7 minutes so that the peas become tender well.

5. Paneer and Simmering:

• Now it is the turn to add paneer to the masala. Carefully add the cubed paneer(cheese) in masala and mix it gently so that the paneer does not break.

• Cover the curry and simmer it for 5 minutes so that the masala gets absorbed well in the paneer.

• If you want the consistency of the curry to be thick then you can add fresh cream to it and simmer it for some time. If you want to keep the curry thin then you can add more water.

6. Adding Kasuri Methi:

• After the curry is cooked, you can add kasuri methi to it for finishing the curry (optional). Some people do not like to add it.

• Stir well so that kasuri methi gets mixed in the masala.

7. Final Touches and Garnishing:

• After making Matar Paneer, turn off the gas and give it time to set, so that the flavors blend well.
